Same thing again in Windows 7?
from Windows Tips and TricksI keep saying that Microsoft should consider a new approach to its desktop operating system, at least in the version intended for home users. Last week I noted a New York Times article that also said that Windows needs a fundamental makeover. There has been mention of a Microsoft project called “Midori” as a possible new beginning. Ed Bott, the bulldog defender of Vista, isn’t buying any of it. In a post, Why you’ll have a long wait for Microsoft’s next OS, Bott first snarls at the author of the New York Times piece and then states about Midori:
But will Midori replace Windows in the near future? Not a chance. If Microsoft really does turn this project into a commercial product, I believe it will exist alongside Windows for several years, at a bare minimum.
Bott is not directly employed by Microsoft but he has close enough ties that he undoubtedly has pretty good insight into Microsoft’s plans. So you have to give credence to what he says about prospects for a new operating system. Of course, what Microsoft may be planning to do is not necessarily what Microsoft ought to do.
